Wall Mailbox with Hessian Lion
Classic wall-mounted letterbox with a large lockable front door and a free-swinging letter slot flap. The body consists of a single cast piece, and the door with the letter slot flap is attached to the body with a hinge strip.
The model for this letterbox is a city letterbox of the Grand Ducal Hessian Post around 1865, with a sculpted Hessian lion and four rosettes on the front, as well as a raised post horn on the right and left sides. The top is finished with a crown, while the bottom ends in the middle with a rosette with foliage. The original colour of the cast-iron letterbox was blue, with gold lettering and decoration. It can be seen in the collection of the Museum Foundation for Post and Telecommunications.
It is attached to the back wall of the letterbox using two sturdy screws (included).
The distance between the mounting holes is 29 cm, but this can be adjusted on request.
